Mid-East Career & Technology Centers has partnered with a group of 30 education, community and business leaders to form the Young Entrepreneurs Consortium (YEC). The YEC serves students in an eleven county area. The goal of the YEC is to increase student achievement by building a robust education to employment model. This model exposes students to career technical pathways, work-based learning experiences, and leverages problem-based learning to prepare students for success in college, on the job and in life. The YEC received an Ohio Straight A Innovative Grant in the amount of $13.6 million. The grant will be used to upgrade technology and create 21st Century Classrooms; to fund teacher credentialing opportunities; and to provide students with the opportunity to take tuition-free college courses through College Credit PLUS.
Business Entrepreneurship is a two-year College Credit Plus program in partnership with Stark State College. Classes are offered online so students can work from a distance learning lab or from home. Students will acquire a broad understanding of all areas of a typical business, including opportunity recognition and evaluation, and new venture startup and growth. They will learn leadership, motivation, communication, team-building, goal setting, and planning, organizational, and decision-making skills.
